Sarah Elizabeth Dwyer

Sarah Elizabeth Dwyer was an artist, a poet, a thinker, a feeler, my aunt-in-law, my friend. Last summer Sarah passed away after a long battle with cancer. She was younger than I am now. I only knew Sarah for a handful of years, but I learned so much from her in that short time, and we became instant friends. We sent each other snaps. We vacationed together. We even bought the same larimar pendant in the Domincan Republic.

Sarah loved to paint and write poetry. Her art is vibrant and daring. Her poetry is honest and shocking. Last year she designed a pendant for her loved ones. I thank my mother-in-law, Judy, for giving me this everlasting memory of Sarah.

Infinity Heart Squared Necklace

You will notice a bunch of special things about this magical, mathematical pendant: 1) the square shape and square outline, 2) the superscript squared number, 3) the square brackets, 4) the heart, and 5) the infinity sign. This pendant is a symbol. It represents Sarah's eternal love for us and ours for her. It is reminder that love does not die, even when bodies do.

I enjoy wearing this pendant with all kinds of tops. Here's the one I wore recently with it (it's an LL Bean oversized turtleneck):

I am so grateful to have met Sarah and that she gave us all the gift of her spirit, here encapsulated in a beautiful memento.

Friends and family, I encourage you to think about designing your own piece of jewelry and then finding someone to make it. It is a wonderufl thing to do!
