What should a professor wear on the first day of classes? A suit? A dress? Something professional, right? Something that will inspire confidence? Something that will radiate "I am the teacher of this class"?

A first day of classes outfit should reflect what you want it to reflect--all business all the time? fun, fun, fun? You decide. For me, it's something like this: "I like color. I like comfort. I like cute symbols. I like to teach."

I chose the following dress, one I wore weeks on end in the summer, to say all of that.

Loose-fitting cotton. Gotta love it! When I teach I get warm. Anyone else?

You might notice that this lovely red dress has a design--blue apples. Not blueberries, but blue apples! When I was handing out the syllbaus in one class a student asked, "Are those apples?!" How teacherly! ;) Yes, my ed students loved this dress. :)

I liked this dress for so many reasons when I saw it at TJMaxx--the price, the bright colors, the playfulness. That is what I enjoy in a wardrobe.

Here's hoping your first week of classes was great! Happy Labor Day--don't work unless they make you!
