Who says you cannot wear a t-shirt to work? Who says you cannot dress up your favorite graphic tee? Even more important, who says you have to wear a floral skirt with a soild colored shirt? Not I, my friends! I say, go for it! Wear that shirt to work. Dress it up. Have fun with mixing and not matching.
I am not the only person to think this way. Check out this Buzzfeed post on "21 Beautiful Ways To Style Graphic Tees." Plenty of bloggers give the same advice. Del Sandeen notes: "A simple tee works well with a long or short floral print skirt. Choose a stretch tee or one that closely skims your body, particularly if your skirt flares and is roomy." What great advice!
When you choose the graphic tee to pair with the skirt, think about how to balance the volume. Wearing a flowy skirt? You must wear a tighter fitting top. Wearing a tight skirt? Perhaps go for a looser top.
Here's what I wore today:

This high-waisted full skirt needs a top that tucks in. It is also nice to bring out the lighter colors of the skirt, and the light gray shirt and the white of the graphic does that well IMO.
I also like promoting libraries, so hey, there's that! The front and back of this shirt are worthing viewing, so it's a party all around!
The next time you are thinking about pairing your t-shirt with solid pants or jeans, think differently. Look for something in your closet or drawers that you would not immediately think matches with the shirt. If you don't have floral, try geometric shapes or any pattern, really. Just don't try to go all matchy-matchy.
Hipsters know better than that!
Happy end of summer! Keep wearing those skirts as long as you can!
