It's a Shirt! It's a Dress! It's a Flannel Shirt Dress!

Although I always admire flannel shirts, I never buy them. Plenty of people look good in flannel shirts, but finding the right fit along with the right pattern is not as easy as one might think. In my experience they are usually too boxy, too thick, too rough, etc. The material does not give; thus, IMHO it can be uncomfortable to wear. But sometimes, on the sale rack, you can find a flannel that fits juuuust right. In my case, this turned out to be a flannel dress.
Here's the thing about buying and wearing a flannel dress. It has to be short, and you have to wear something under it. You can't wear this short flannel dress in the summer for obvious reasons, but in the winter, fall, or early spring you can pair this item with leggings or super skinny jeans and create a relaxed, fun look that actually feels light and airy.
See the example I show below. My flannel shirt dress:

This particular flannel is thin (a good thing) and soft. It has a pocket on the front (cute). I also like the particular print and colors. The side has some cotton (a giving fabric) designed for the wearer's comfort and movement. Unlike the image I posted at the beginning of this blog, the flannel item I purchased does not have a belt (although one could definitely be added).
Besides this flannel's comfort and relaxed style, I also like how versatile it is. I can wear it with tights and boots, or with leggings and sneakers. I could throw it on over a pair of jeans. I could layer a jean jacket over it. Lots of options.
Last week I wore it this way:

I forgot to mention that this flannel shirt dress has POCKETS!
While I didn't look as put together as I sometimes do when I teach, I was comfortable and happy to be wearing this outfit. It was warm enough to show bare skin (see ankles and shins!) and dry enough to wear my Converse. To that I say amen!
