Bright Colors + Fall Foliage

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I adore bright colors. I am not afraid to show it, either! While sometimes I will wear one bright thing--such as a pair of hot pink Converse (see last blog post), other times I will go all out and wear a couple of bright pieces.

Students always notice. When I first moved to Maine, the land of hoodies and colors gray, brown, and black, I dared to stand out with neon corduroy pants (one in yellow, another in pink), bright lipstick and shoes, and an array of eye-popping colored shirts and jackets. As I wore these items, students would say, "whoa!" or "you're not afraid of color!" They were right. Color excites me, and it excites them. Yesterday I wore the outfit below, and a girl in my 8:40 a.m. freshmen class said, "oh my gosh, I love your colors! They're so bright!" I told her that I needed to wake myself up, so I chose these pants and this sweater.

I broke out one of my favorite sweaters--a short turquoise button-up (which I never actually button up)--and my coral linen pants. I think the striped shirt adds a bit of bold contrast, too. Without the sweater, it's still a bright outfit, but because fall mornings in Maine are a little cool, I had to wear a sweater. Unfortunately, the rooms I teach in are cool, too, so I ended up wearing the sweater for most of the day. That's OK, though, cuz I got to wear two bold colors. Nothin' wrong with that!

As I left work yesterday I realized that my pants match some of the fall foliage around here. Here's a picture of a tree adjacent to my parking lot.

This is such a beautiful time of year! When I looked out my window at home today, I realized that my pants also matched a tree across the street.

So...while I don't see many Mainahs wearing these colors, I see the trees sporting bright hues. ;) I suddenly feel at one with Nature. Ahhhh!
