Linen: The Fabric of Life

Linen: the fabric of our lives. It has been worn for centuries, even millennia, by Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Brits, Americans, and many more. It has been worn as outer-wear and under-wear. It is often worn in warm weather, but has become associated with a lifestyle of leisure. One who wears linen says to the world, "I am relaxed." Perhaps, "I am on island time." Some designers for men and women exclusively make linen for this purpose--to cultivate a carefree attitude, to help the wearer feel as if he or she is on a perma-vacation. These designers call these clothes "resort wear." Don't fool yourself into thinking that you can only wear linen on the beach, though. Some designers make linen suits, and the wearers don them in office buildings or college classrooms. I guess the wearer of the linen suit, or at least the linen jacket/coat, also has a statement to make. Perhaps, "I am at work, but in my mind I am on a tropical island." Maybe, "I'm too cool for school." :D

Wednesday I finally wore a pair of pants--linen pants--to class. I try to wear as many dresses as possible at the start of the fall. After all, only months from now chilly weather will turn into snowy weather. I also realized last week that I need to wear my new linen pants at the start of the semester. You can't wear linen in fall, can you? That gives me another week to wear the pair of coral-colored linen pants featured below and a second pair, yet to be featured on this blog. (Thanks to Shari Witham for helping me decide upon the precise color of these pants.) See how happy I am after a day of wearing linen pants--also, pocketed pants!

I was so happy that I did a happy dance (to Gorillaz) when I got home. That carefree attitude, in part, comes from wearing coral linen pants. You should try it some time. :D
